A Practical Approach to Strategy

A strong strategy process turns ambition into action by creating clarity, alignment and clear priorities. It helps leaders navigate competing priorities, define ownership and build the structure needed for successful execution. When leaders are aligned on what matters most, the organisation can work with greater focus, make better decisions and translate strategy into more consistent results.

We use a proven framework built by Unite Consulting, that helps leaders align, prioritise and turn strategy into action:

Typical outputs

Clarify ambition, choices and desired outcomes

Create shared understanding and leadership alignment

Identify the few priorities that matter most

Turn priorities into actions, owners and milestones

Track progress, remove blockers and adapt when needed

Why this works
Creates clarity early, turns strategic choices into clear priorities and builds an execution rhythm from the start.

What we do in practice
• Translate direction into roadmap, ownership and governance
• Run targeted interviews and review existing material
• Facilitate workshops to align choices, trade offs and priorities

A typical short engagement compresses the work into fast leadership sprints:

  • Hold a sponsor meeting to understand the context, ambition, challenges and expectations.
  • Kick off with the leadership team and confirm scope, desired outcomes and sponsor expectations.
  • Conduct leadership interviews and a rapid review of relevant material.
  • Run a leadership workshop to align on ambition, goals and the desired outcome.
  • Draft the strategic direction and share it back for refinement.

Deliverables: Agreed ambition, goals and alignment themes

  • Map current and proposed initiatives and assess them against the agreed ambition and strategic direction.
  • Prioritise initiatives based on impact, urgency, feasibility & dependencies.
  • Run a leadership prioritisation workshop and make clear stop, start and continue choices.
  • Define workstreams, clarify initial ownership and develop the first version of the roadmap.
  • Prepare the decision pack for the final mobilisation week.

Deliverables: Top priorities, sequencing and draft delivery plan

  • Confirm owners, milestones, KPIs and cross functional dependencies.
  • Define the governance rhythm, reporting format and escalation process.
  • Run a review and adjustment workshop to remove blockers and refine the roadmap.
  • Secure leadership sign off and align communication to the wider organisation.
  • Identify the teams and capabilities needed to drive execution.

Deliverables: Final roadmap, dashboard and review rhythm

Typical working format: 1 kick-off, 2–3 leadership workshops, 6–10 stakeholder/expert interviews, synthesis between sessions, and weekly sponsor check-ins.

The framework is modular and can be adapted to where the organisation is today e.g. if direction is already clear, we focus on priorities, roadmap and delivery setup. If a specific sprint is the real need, we work there directly.
